Katie (Barbra Streisand) and Hubbell (Robert Redford) have known each other since college. She is a workaholic and politically active in the communist league. He is a wealthy golden boy who effortlessly glides through life. Despite their differences, Katie and Hubbell fall in love. They marry and move to Hollywood, where Hubbell writes screenplays. Then the communist witch hunt of the McCarthy era begins. Katie refuses to compromise. She separates from Hubbell and returns to New York with their daughter. There, Katie and Hubbell unexpectedly meet again on the street. Their love still connects them, but can they live together?.
