The Swiss Makers (restored)

Max Bodmer (Walo Lüönd) and Moritz Fischer (Emil Steinberger), the main characters of this ironic-satirical comedy about becoming and being Swiss, are among those officials of the cantonal police who must scrutinize foreigners wishing to acquire citizenship. Not everyone is suited to be Swiss. Those who want to obtain the citizenship of this most beautiful, cleanest, and richest country will be visited, questioned, observed, eavesdropped on, judged, compared, noted, and evaluated. They must fit the profile that the authorities desire for native citizens. In this layered story, a German psychiatrist with his wife, an Italian pastry chef, and a Yugoslav ballet dancer experience various methods that can be applied during such a verification process. Their desired and undesired encounters with the two character witnesses, Bodmer and Fischer, are entirely fictional. However, any resemblance to actual circumstances cannot be entirely ruled out...
