Silence is silver, speech is gold - the celebrated director Sönke Wortmann presents his first novel. Franz-Josef Klenke works as a speechwriter for Foreign Minister Hans Behring and regularly accompanies him on his trips abroad. He does everything to make the principled man look good, which also means that while he doesn't necessarily lie in speeches, he also refrains from stating certain truths. However, Klenke, a man of words, loves Maria, who cannot speak. This leads to problems time and again. When the delegation departs for a trip to Morocco to negotiate a readmission agreement for illegal refugees, they are met there by the diplomat Cornelius von Schröder. He has his own views on migration - and an agenda that no one suspects.
