Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) has been working for years in the photo archive of Life magazine. He is a loner who escapes his dull routine through adventurous, heroic, and romantic daydreams. Walter's only bright spot is his new coworker Cheryl (Kristen Wiig), whom he admires from afar. One day, it is announced that Life will only be published online in the future. The last print issue is supposed to feature a photo by the famous Life photographer (Sean Penn). However, the photo that was sent to Walter has gone missing. Motivated by Cheryl, Walter gathers all his courage and embarks on an exciting journey to the other side of the world, which turns into a wonderful adventure he could never have dreamed of.
