Product details

A school on Juist, a dream of freedom. Juist, 1925: A group of teachers, energetic and full of ideals, establishes a very special boarding school at the far edge of the Weimar Republic. With its own gardens, seawater aquariums, and a theater hall. It is a close-knit community: the Jewish teacher Anni Reiner, the music educator Eduard Zuckmayer, the ten-year-old Maximilian, who sometimes struggles with peer pressure, and the determined islander Kea, who runs the kitchen. However, the coastal climate is harsh, and soon tensions rise between the teachers and the islanders, who see the school as a refuge for Jews and communists. In the catastrophic ice winter of 1929, the island is cut off from the outside world for weeks. People draw a little closer together. But can there be hope when the rest of the world is heading towards the abyss?.
