Robert Clayton Dean (Will Smith), a young star lawyer in Washington D.C., unknowingly comes into possession of a video that links a top official (Jon Voight) of the powerful U.S. intelligence agency NSA to a political murder. Without knowing the motives or background, the lawyer suddenly finds himself in the crosshairs of ruthless NSA agents who will stop at nothing to destroy his life using the latest high-tech surveillance. Dean loses his wife and his good reputation: his entire identity! Completely alone and falling into despair, he flees from his adversaries until the underground surveillance expert Brill (Gene Hackman) opens his eyes.
