The phantoms of the hatter

A serial killer is terrorizing the small port town of La Rochelle. In five rainy nights, he has seemingly randomly murdered five women, and the police are at a loss. Only the shy Jewish tailor Kachoudas knows the identity of the perpetrator. It is his neighbor, the respected hat maker Léon Labbé. He discovered this by chance at the Café de Colonnes, where the gentlemen, who have nothing else in common, both gather in the evenings. However, Kachoudas does not go to the police. The offered reward would alleviate some of the tailor's worries, but he knows that as an immigrant, he will not be believed.
