On Christmas Eve, Klara receives a beautiful nutcracker from her mysterious godfather Drosselmeyer. That night, she has a strange dream: toy soldiers and nutcrackers fight against the army of the evil Mouse King. When he is defeated, the nutcracker transforms into a handsome prince. Both find themselves caught in a fierce snowstorm and flee to the Castle of Confectionburg, where the Sugar Fairy celebrates a wonderfully sweet festival filled with many dances. The world-famous fairy tale ballet by Peter Tchaikovsky (1840–1893) premiered on December 18, 1892, in St. Petersburg, is based on a story by E. T. A. Hoffmann, and is retold with excitement and humor for children aged five and up by Bert Alexander Petzold. The cheerful illustrations by Rita Atlas allow us to rediscover the well-known story. The CD features a staged reading with Antje Hamer, accompanied by sound effects and popular original music. The book is released as part of the series "Great Classics Made Easy. DIE ZEIT Edition.".
