The meeting in Telgte

In 1647, the German Baroque poets meet in Telgte near Münster, where the Peace of Westphalia is being negotiated at the same time. Grimmelshausen provides them with accommodations, and his immortal character, the land-stormer Courage, serves as their hostess while the authors read and discuss their works. The "Meeting in Telgte," as conceived by Günter Grass, also features the composer Heinrich Schütz, who becomes a central figure in the narrative and inspires the live staging of this encounter between literature and music: Thus, Günter Grass's reading is musically framed by the Stuttgart Chamber Choir under the direction of Frieder Bernius.
