These are just a few sentences in a still unpublished manuscript that Vita finds in her father's study - but something about them enchants and disturbs the seventeen-year-old at the same time. A little later she sets off with her friends on a journey across Europe and by chance comes across the scene of the manuscript in Italy: Viagello, a picturesque little village. The place exudes a strange attraction for Vita, which becomes even stronger as the tightrope walker Luca literally falls at her feet. At first glance, Luca is something special for Vita, but something about him and his family she cannot grasp. She does not yet suspect that he will take her on a journey deep into her memories, at the end of which there will be something that once happened in Viagello - that longest night.
