Kirsten Boie, one of the most renowned German authors of modern children's and young adult literature, was born in 1950 in Hamburg, where she still lives with her family today. She earned her doctorate in literary studies and worked as a teacher. Her first book was published in 1985 and became an unprecedented success. Since then, numerous books by Kirsten Boie have been published and translated into many languages. In addition to children's and young adult books, she also writes shorter screenplays for children's television, lectures, and essays on various aspects of children's and young adult literature, and she travels abroad, both in Europe and beyond, on behalf of the Goethe Institute. In 2007, Kirsten Boie received the German Youth Literature Prize for her lifetime achievement and in 2008, the Gossen Prize from the Bavarian Savings Bank Foundation. In 2011, Kirsten Boie was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class.
