The Great Barrier Reef Natural Wonder of Superlatives

The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is world-famous and holds records: 2,300 kilometers long, it covers an area of 350,000 square kilometers and is visible from space with the naked eye. The builders of this largest structure created by living beings on Earth are tiny coral polyps, often no more than 2 millimeters in size. Due to its biodiversity, the reef is also known as the "jungle" of the seas, with nearly 9,000 native species identified so far. Additionally, it attracts a multitude of both small and large visitors, such as turtles, sharks, whales, and manatees.
