Roger Willemsen published his first book in 1984 and subsequently worked as a lecturer, editor, translator, essayist and correspondent from London, from 1991 also as a presenter, director and producer for television. He received, among others, the Bavarian Television Prize and the Adolf Grimme Prize in Gold. His novel 'Kleine Lichter' was filmed with Franka Potente in the leading role, his film about the jazz pianist Michel Petrucciani was shown in many countries. Willemsen is an 'amnesty' ambassador, patron of the Afghan Women's Association and honorary professor of literature at the Humboldt University in Berlin. In 2011 he was awarded the Julius-Campe-Prize.
