The Christmas List

Four weeks before Christmas, Ben Hinrichs is set to close his late uncle's toy store in Friedrichstadt. In the snowy Frisian expanse, the Dutch enclave from the 17th century appears like a mirage. When the residents of Friedrichstadt notice that something is happening in the store again, they flock to it in droves. Uncle Hein's shop was a popular meeting place for children and adults alike. The funeral speaker Nintje Hermenau also makes an appearance; she accompanied Ben's uncle on his final journey. In the back room of the store, Ben discovers a list of toys that Uncle Hein intended to deliver for Christmas. Unfortunately, the names are missing. How can Ben ensure everyone receives their Christmas gifts? In his quest to find the recipients, Ben becomes increasingly intertwined in the stories of the close-knit Friedrichstadt community. Nintje supports him, and in the evenings, they glide together on ice skates over the frozen canals. The sparkling lights on the gables pass by them like a dream.
