It's summer vacation, and the Becker family is on holiday in the Alps. Seven-year-old Alexander and his six-year-old sister Sophie are initially not thrilled about the silverfish, mosquitoes, and spiders that inhabit their cabin. However, they soon meet Julia in the holiday cabin community. Julia is a biologist studying dragonflies at a nearby lake, and she has an incredible talent for explaining things. For example, when she tells them about the workings of an ant colony, Alexander and Sophie feel as if they themselves have to carry the huge sticks around. During a trek through the forest, a visit to the butterfly park, and a night hike, the children discover just how exciting nature really is, that insects play an important role, and that they are incredibly diverse as a class of animals. By the end of their vacation, Alexander and Sophie find the little critters and their fascinating world truly exciting.
