New York in the 1980s: There is really only one person who ever understood June Elbus, and that is her uncle Finn Weiss, a famous painter. At school, she is more of an outsider and is consistently ignored by her older sister, feeling truly comfortable only in Finn's company. When Finn dies far too young from a mysterious illness, the name of which her mother can hardly bring herself to say, nothing in June's life remains the same. At Finn's funeral, June notices a shy young man who lingers in the background, and a few days later, she receives a package. Inside is the beautiful teapot from Finn's apartment and a note from Toby, the stranger. As it turns out, June is not the only one on the verge of breaking down from Finn's loss. Initially, June is suspicious, but gradually a connection develops...
