Stoner

William Stoner is born in 1891 as the son of poor farmers in Missouri. He leaves his agricultural studies behind without regret when he discovers his love for literature. He works hard to rise through the ranks and eventually becomes a professor. However, his life is filled with disappointments: his wife turns out to be a cold-hearted schemer who destroys his close relationship with their daughter, and he must give up his passionate love for a student. An adversary at the university does everything possible to tarnish Stoner's reputation. This is a magnificent novel about a man who preserves his dignity through all adversities.
