Summer in Castle Rock, an idyllic small town in the state of Oregon. For days, Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern have been following the radio reports about a boy who did not return from blueberry picking. It is said that the boy was hit by a train and that his horrifically mangled body is now lying somewhere beside the tracks. Vern and his friends imagine how exciting it would be to search for the dead boy. Fueled by the desire to be celebrated as heroes, they set out on a strenuous, adventurous journey through the mountainous terrain of Oregon.
