The young Jamal Malik sits in the packed TV studio, he is a candidate on India's acclaimed TV show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Born in the slums of Mumbai, Jamal soon achieved what no one had ever thought possible. Inexorably he answers question after question, for each question he remembers a part of his life and to everyone's amazement it becomes more and more probable what most of his fellow countrymen can only dream of: The profit of the 20 million rupees. However, none of the outsiders suspect that Jamal is suspected by the television crew and police of being a fraud. But the kid didn't sign up for "Who wants to be a millionaire?" because of the big win...
