Retreating to the last city, the tyrannical ruler Mevolent, along with his followers, is planning an invasion of Earth. Thousands of wizards are set to flood into this universe through portals in just a few months and subjugate everyone. The Sanctuary is worried and sends Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain into Dimension X to thwart these plans. Tanith Low, Dexter Vex, and other Dead Men naturally accompany them. With the Scepter of the Ancestors and three additional God-slaying weapons, they are tasked with killing Mevolent. However, they first need to find him. A long, dangerous journey through a ravaged dimension begins, during which more than one member of the group goes missing.
