He is ten when the revolution breaks out in East Germany. While many long for freedom, he is afraid: of the imperialists and fascists, whom his teachers warned him about. Afraid of what is to come and what he does not know. A few years later, he is pursued by neo-Nazis because of his long hair. At the same time, he meets with right-wingers because he feels safe with them. As safe as he does with Mariam, whose family comes from Georgia and who is afraid of nothing. But he must decide which side he is on.
