Ronja Robber's Daughter

In the midst of a thunderstorm, Ronja is born as the daughter of the robber chief Mattis. About eleven years later, Ronja is finally allowed to venture into the forest, where she must be cautious of the river, the Gray Dwarfs, and the Dark Trolls. Her friend Birk stands by her side.

One stormy night, as terrible as it can be, a daughter is born to the captain at the robber fortress: Ronja. Not far away, at the same hour, a boy named Birk comes into the world. Birk is the son of the rival and arch-enemy Borka. The families have been feuding for generations. But one day, Ronja and Birk meet in the forest, and a wonderful and inseparable friendship begins.

With the help of his band of robbers, Mattis captures young Birk to extort the bothersome rival. Life at Mattisburg becomes unbearable for Ronja. Therefore, she and Birk decide to move into the forest together.

Life in the forest is glorious and full of adventure. Nevertheless, both sometimes think longingly of their fathers. After an inconclusive duel between the rivals Borka and Mattis, the two robber bands stage a grand reconciliation feast. At the height of the celebration, Ronja and Birk announce that they never want to become robbers. In spring, the young couple moves back into the bear cave.
