Rio

Not long after hatching and just before gaining the ability to fly, the Blue Macaw "Blu" is captured by animal trappers in Brazil and shipped to the United States. There, he literally falls out of the truck along with his crate in wintery Minnesota and ends up in the hands of caring little Linda, who raises him as her best friend. Fifteen years later, they are still friends, and Linda is the owner of a bookstore when the Brazilian ornithologist Tulio shows up at her door and identifies Blu as the last known male of his species. He asks Linda to come with Blu to Rio de Janeiro, where Blu is supposed to mate with the last female, Jewel, in hopes of producing offspring. Blu, who is still flightless but very well-read and active, is not thrilled, as it turns out that Jewel is neither particularly excited about him nor interested in captivity.
