On All Souls' Day 1989, a widower and a widow, a German art historian and a Polish restorer, meet in Gdansk. Both are displaced persons; and both parents have wished to rest once in their native soil. Thus the idea of a German-Polish Cemetery Society is born - the displaced should be allowed to return to "reconciliation cemeteries" as the dead. Over the next few years, the idea develops into a flourishing business enterprise and a new German land grab in Poland. With serene composure and unobtrusive satire, Grass tells of dying, of dignity, and of the peace of death. Unabridged author reading 1 mp3 CD approx. 9 h 3 min.
