Spain in the 18th century: As an infant, little Marcellino is left on the steps of a Franciscan monastery. Lovingly raised by the brothers of the order, he is especially forbidden to enter the attic. When curiosity gets the better of him and he discovers a large crucifix, a miracle occurs: the figure of Christ comes to life for the boy and even allows him to provide it with bread and wine. As the desire to see his apparently deceased mother grows within him, the heartbreaking consequences unfold...
