Product details
Two melancholic policemen in Hong Kong at night: narrow alleys, a brightly lit fast food joint. Both wear numbers instead of names; both are left by their girlfriends. Policeman No. 223 gives his girlfriend a month to return to him. Every day, he gifts her canned pineapple with the expiration date of their love, his birthday. Policeman 663 loses his girlfriend after following the advice of the fast food owner and bringing her something different to eat. This makes her eager to try something else in love as well. At home, he comforts his abandoned apartment to avoid grieving himself, while Policeman 223 jogs until there is no water, no tears left in him. Lost souls moving in circles, seeking solace through little tricks and hopes. Like billiard balls, they collide and change their trajectories.
The visual pull and poetic extravagance of Chunking Express established Wong Kar Wai's international career and made the film one of the most stylistically defining works of the 1990s. It transports the audience into a wild, unknown, and romantic world that seems to have come undone, and whose madness can only be endured with a melancholic detachment. An unforgettable work that has forever changed the urban film genre.
