Once, the great-grandfather of the Maybug Sumsemann had his little leg chopped off by a wood thief. As punishment, the thief was banished to the moon by the night fairy. However, the little leg also ended up there and can only be retrieved by two dear children. When Mr. Sumsemann meets Peterchen and Anneliese, a fantastic journey to the moon begins for the three of them. With the help of the Sandman, the night fairy, and the big bear, they manage to reclaim the little leg from the Man in the Moon.
