Out of the dementia trap!

Current dementia research is convinced that dementia is caused by age-related degradation processes and deposits in the brain. In an easily understandable manner and with compelling arguments, Gerald Hüther, one of the leading brain researchers, makes it clear that this notion, developed in the last century, is not only incorrect but has also obscured the view of the phenomenon that is actually responsible for the development of dementia: the suppression of the brain's regenerative and compensatory abilities, which typically remain present well into old age. However, we almost all inevitably lose this neuroplastic potential in a world where the joy of personal discovery and collaborative creation as we age increasingly eludes us.
