On the road

In the music of an airport waiting hall in Timbuktu, a promotional photo, a television image showing a Berlin bear dancing in a plush costume, seen somewhere in the world, I might feel more at home than at a German train station. Roger Willemsen was a traveler his entire life. In this live recording, accompanied by the WDR Big Band, he shares what traveling means to him, recounting his encounters with the unfamiliar and the two poles that essentially determine the movement of travel: the resistance against one's own home and the longing for the foreign place.
