On the road again

On the road again – a musical quest along the edges of Europe, from Georgia to Iceland, from Bela Krajina to Karelia. These are wistfully elegiac songs from Eastern Europe, alternating with lively dance tunes, yearning love songs, and repetitive work songs; but there are also nature hymns and cheeky satirical songs. The approximately 50-voice women’s choir moves through a variety of styles and can sometimes sound archaically rough or produce piercing lamentations, only to then sing in enchanting softness. This album is supported and expanded by the brilliant Albin Brun Quartet, which is equally at home in many styles and whose compositions meander between folk music, jazz, and improvisation. The heartfelt songs of the women singers from Winterthur, originating from Eastern and Southern Europe, Scandinavia, and of course, not least from Switzerland, are interpreted anew and fresh.
