Night of tears

A serial killer is on the loose in Sacramento. He forces his victims to apologize to him, then carves letters into their bare skin and kills them. He also pursues the young Daisy Dawson, but she knows how to defend herself, and before the attacker escapes, she manages to tear a silver medallion from his neck. Its engraving corresponds exactly to the tattoo that FBI agent Gideon Reynolds involuntarily wears on his chest.
