Product details
The first half of the 1950s. The communist regime in Poland is gaining strength. It encourages small farmers to unite in cooperatives and promises rapid electrification of the villages and the construction of cooperative housing. However, people remain skeptical about the changes: "Whatever you build will be taxed, whatever you boast about will be reported and inspected by the authorities." Against this backdrop, the author vividly and optimistically depicts the village of Pawłowice, where two families – the Jasnots and the Rucińskis – prepare for the wedding of Czesiek and Zuzia, attend the church ceremony, and celebrate the wedding in style. We learn about the characters, attitudes, and judgments of individual guests, including the distinctive violinist from Błonie and the parish priest, who, while supporting the current government and being popular among the villagers, is monitored by the security service.
