Moby-Dick or The Whale

"Call me Ishmael..." Moby-Dick is the story of Captain Ahab and his hunt for the white whale, the tale of a man possessed, driven by vengeance and a desire for retribution, dragging his ship and crew down into the abyss with him. Moby-Dick is itself a whale of a novel: inexhaustible in its variety of approaches to a single theme, the human adventure of whaling and the courage it entailed; inexhaustible in the interpretation of all its aspects, including the scientific ones, which interrupt the continually breathtaking story of the God-seeker and God-denier Ahab, making the delay of their tension unbearable. No comparable work has been written in the entire history of literature.
