Metropol

Moscow, 1936: Charlotte, a German communist, has just escaped persecution by the Nazis. In late summer, she sets off with her husband Wilhelm and the young British woman Jill on a journey of several weeks through their new homeland, the Soviet Union. All three are employees of the Comintern's intelligence service, where Communists of all countries are employed. It is all the more serious that among the "enemies of the people" being tried in Moscow is someone Lotte knows better than she would like. Eight years after the international success of "In Times of Diminishing Light," Eugen Ruge returns to the story of his family. "Metropol" follows three people on the fine line between conviction and knowledge, loyalty and obedience, suspicion and betrayal.
