Lassie returns

The film is set just before the outbreak of World War II. In Greenhall Bridge, a small mining town in the northern English county of Yorkshire, Lassie lives with nine-year-old Joe Carraclough and his parents. The extraordinary and particularly beautiful collie is well-known throughout the village, and even the local mine owner, the Duke of Rudling, shows interest in her, as the wealthy aristocrat has a passion for award-winning dogs and is used to getting his way. When the mine closes and Joe's father Sam becomes unemployed, he can no longer afford to refuse the Duke's offers and is forced, to the dismay of his family, to sell Lassie. The Duke introduces his latest "acquisition" to his niece Cilla, but Lassie has other plans and makes several brave escape attempts to return to the family she loves. Ultimately, the Duke takes her to his castle, five hundred miles away on the lonely northern coast of Scotland. But even the long distance cannot deter Lassie from her determination, and with Cilla's help, she manages to escape from the Duke and his cruel dog trainer Hines and sets off on her journey home. Thus begins an incredible adventure set against the breathtaking landscapes of Scotland and northern England, where Lassie must overcome natural and human dangers and finds unexpected help along the way.
