King Kong - Special Edition

Fred Wilson (Charles Grodin), an employee of a large American oil company, has a mission to find new oil wells. With a chartered boat he sets off on a journey to a still uninhabited island in the South Pacific. A stowaway is also on board: palaeontologist Jack Prescott (Jeff Bridges) has smuggled himself onto the ship because he wants to study a rare species of monkey on this island. On the way, after a violent storm, the expedition also takes the shipwrecked Dawn (Jessica Lange) on board, who is floating in a lifeboat at sea. When the ship anchors off the island, however, it turns out that it is not as uninhabited as everyone thought. The natives living there perform a strange ritual to pay homage to a larger-than-life ape called "Kong". When they catch sight of the blonde Dawn, they have found their offering.

John Guillermin (Blazing Inferno, Death on the Nile) remade the material of the 1976 classic film "King Kong and the White Woman" starring Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange. At the 1977 Academy Awards, Carlo Rimbaldi, Glen Robinson and Frank Van der Veer received a Special Achievement Award for the film's special effects. The film also received nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Sound. Jessica Lange was honoured as Best New Actress at the Golden Globes in the same year.
