The Apaches under their chief Winnetou want to conclude a peace treaty with the American government. But there are envious people who want to prevent this at all costs: The army commander Captain Bradley and his helpers Dixon and Burker have devised a diabolical plan to take over the valuable pasture land of the Indians. Young Mabel Kingsley wants to save her father's reputation: The missing army major is accused by the military court of having left for Mexico with the war chest of his fort. Mabel firmly believes in her father's innocence because his last letter to her contains a clue to the whereabouts of the gold. The gang leader Murdock is also interested in him - but Old Shatterhand thwarts an attack by his men on Mabel's travel coach. Together with the young woman, he sets off in search of the gold to prove Major Kingsley's innocence in court.
