Something was different about Hilke today, that much is certain. Right: She had applied a soft pink lipstick. What was going on here!? Ernst Mannsen is confused. Has the owner of the new upscale hotel in the village actually started something with the nice deputy tourism officer? Surely not, Ernst is convinced, because he expects to gain advantages for his hotel from it. After all, Hilke does not fit at all with that arrogant Pascal Thelen, that loudmouth from the mainland who still doesn’t greet the villagers. Hilke is a plain Jane, lives alone, helps Minna Paulsen in the children's club in her free time, plays the organ in church on Sundays, spreads sandwiches during the Red Cross blood donation events, and is overall very shy. But now it seems she is head over heels for this Pascal and has no time for anything else. Ernst sees disaster coming and is determined to prevent it. Although his wife Gudrun and Minna Paulsen forbid him to interfere, saying it’s none of his business, he at least has Hella Fröhlich, an old acquaintance, as an ally. She also has a strange feeling about this snob from the mainland. And isn’t it really getting out of hand with all these big hotels on the island, attracting even more tourists? And with the tourists possibly come drugs and even criminals? So Hella and Ernst decide to check out the dating portal where Hilke is apparently registered. Well, Sylt is small, and the turbulence takes its course. But in the end, it turns out that it is not the unbearable hotel manager who has captured Hilke's heart, but the nice cook. What remains is the realization that Sylt is the island of lonely hearts. And to change that, Ernst, Gudrun, and Hella open the Café of Lonely Hearts, a meeting place for singles young and old.
