John Winger loses his job, his car, his apartment, and his girlfriend—all in one day. He decides that there is only one way for him to go: he convinces his friend Russell to join him in enlisting in the Army. Where else can they do so much to preserve democracy and, even more importantly, meet girls so easily? After endless skirmishes with their training sergeant and a wild night in a mud wrestling arena with topless women, they really get into the swing of things. They steal a top-secret military vehicle to make it to a rendezvous and end up behind the Iron Curtain after many exciting adventures.
