The eccentric millionaire son Harold doesn't know what to do with himself. His greatest pleasures are perfectly staged suicides and visiting funerals. At a funeral service one day he meets the almost 80-year-old Maude, with whom he soon meets regularly. The fun-loving, vital Maude shows Harold the good sides of life, teaches him dancing and singing and steals cars with him until the boy finally falls in love with the old lady. Unsuspectingly, his mother tries to fix him up with horrible young ladies, but Harold quickly drives them away with macabre ideas like hara-kiri, self-immolation and similar jokes...
