Persuaded by his arch-enemy Langhammer, Kluftinger drives to the castle in Bad Grönenbach in the middle of the night to check on things. There, he discovers the baron's wife murdered: draped in a grotesque pose like in an ancient painting of the castle. Is the solution to the case hidden in the family history?
