For years, Christiane Vulpius struggles for recognition as the partner of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a status denied to her despite their shared child. It is only when she saves the world-famous poet from looting soldiers in 1806 that her life and position in society change, although she is never fully accepted into noble circles. Nevertheless, she becomes Goethe's loyal collaborator behind the scenes, assisting him especially with the performances of his plays. She is brave, unconventional, smarter than commonly portrayed, sensual, and extremely caring.
