Goethe's correspondence with a child

Bettina von Arnim first meets the 36 years older Johann von Goethe in 1807 in Weimar. The letters she signs with "Your child" had previously gone unanswered by the world-famous poet. Now, Bettina's infatuation turns into an almost obsessive adoration, yet he responds to her only rarely and very briefly. When his jealous wife and Bettina publicly clash four years later, Goethe permanently ends their correspondence. Bettina von Arnim publishes the revised correspondence in 1835.
