Product details
Thirteen-year-old Daniel must not tell anyone where his father is taking him: to West Berlin. There, he is supposed to attend high school, as this is not possible in his small town in East Germany. The new school principal warns against visits home: it is too dangerous. The author Christoph Hein also attended a school in the West, as he was not allowed to take the Abitur in the GDR. When he visits his old home in 1961, he is caught by the construction of the Wall and has to stay. Without a school diploma, he gets by as an assembly worker, bookseller, and waiter. In his fictional autobiography, Hein recounts a youth in the GDR during the 1950s. Unabridged reading with Ulrich Mühe, 1 mp3-CD, duration approx. 346 min.
