Richard Gold has prepared everything. Today is the day he is going to take his own life. The rope is already around his neck when a scrawny tomcat sits down in front of the window, stares with interest - and completely throws Gold off his stride. When the tomcat moves in with Gold because he has a big TV, an "extremely" soft bed and serves food on time, a bizarre friendship begins between two outsiders, at least one of whom firmly believes in a happy ending in life.
