Love as an intellectually stimulating game is at the center of Éric Rohmer's cinematic work. His characters are often contradictory, nuanced, and sympathetic in their own unique ways. Both aspects give Rohmer's films, all produced by his own production company Les Films du Losange, a fascinating timelessness. The majority of his filmography can be divided into cycles, including Moral Tales, Comedies and Proverbs, and Tales of the Four Seasons.

Moral Tales is Éric Rohmer's first film cycle, consisting of a total of six works. My Night at Maud's, which, like most of Rohmer's other films, focuses on love as a central theme, became a favorite among audiences and Rohmer's most successful film.
