Product details
The Raspberry Pi camera module is a specially designed add-on for the Raspberry Pi. It attaches to the Raspberry Pi through one of the two small sockets on the top of the board. This interface uses the dedicated CSI interface, which is specifically designed for cameras. The CSI bus is capable of extremely high data rates and transmits only pixel data. Raspberry Pi is not included.
The board itself is very small, measuring approximately 25 mm x 20 mm x 9 mm. It also weighs just over 3 g, making it perfect for mobile or other applications where size and weight are important. It connects to the Raspberry Pi via a short flat ribbon cable. The camera is connected to the BCM2835 processor on the Pi via the CSI bus, a high-bandwidth connection that transmits pixel data from the camera back to the processor. This bus runs along the flat ribbon cable that connects the camera board to the Pi.
The sensor itself has a native resolution of 5 megapixels and features a fixed-focus lens. In terms of still images, the camera can capture static images with a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels and also supports 1080p30, 720p60, and 640x480p60/90 video.
The camera is supported in the latest version of Raspbian, Raspberry Pi's preferred operating system.
