Product details
Towards the end of the 18th century, two young Germans set out to measure the world. One, Alexander von Humboldt, battles through jungles and steppes, navigates the Orinoco, tests poisons, counts head lice, crawls into burrows, climbs volcanoes, and encounters sea monsters and cannibals. The other, the mathematician and astronomer Carl Friedrich Gauss, who cannot spend his life without women yet jumps out of bed on his wedding night to jot down a formula – he also proves in his hometown of Göttingen that space is curved. Old, famous, and a bit eccentric, the two meet in Berlin in 1828.
