Dürr:A village like any other

Sepp Dürr writes about a village, like many in Bavaria, and how it is faring. He recounts the time of yesteryear when Germering was already in the midst of a fundamental transformation, yet the old district was still unaware that it was no longer a farming village. Dürr lived in this completely different world before the fundamental change, and yet he can hardly believe some of his memories. For what happened back then, in the late 1950s, seems to have occurred centuries ago and feels almost unreal. It is an impressive and simultaneously stirring documentation of a bygone era. "Our village has changed almost completely during my lifetime. This has happened to all places, and many things have improved for us; but unfortunately, little remains of what was already good. Fortunately, the old church was not torn down. Practically all other buildings from previous centuries have been demolished in the last five or six decades.".
