The contrasting Pevensie children, two boys and two girls, take refuge in the country house of the eccentric Professor Kirke during the German air raids on London. While playing hide and seek, little Lucy slips into a wardrobe that turns out to be a portal to the magical realm of Narnia. There, it is an eternal winter, and the land is ruled with an iron fist by the White Witch. Now it is up to the quartet of kids to find the rightful king, the magical lion Aslan, and free the oppressed parallel world with him. Narnia, created by Andrew Adamson, director of "Shrek," appears as a pastoral idyll, where he illustrates the tale of the eternal struggle between good and evil with youthful energy and a healthy dose of naivety, all enhanced by the latest technology. However, the spectacular effects come at the expense of the story, which is based on a book by C.S. Lewis.
